Hispanic Heritage Month Patch
By acknowledging the diversity, heritage, and contributions of our multicultural communities, Girl Scouts can find new ways to make the world a better place for everyone.
So, during Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15), celebrate with your friends and family by recognizing all the histories, cultures, and contributions that Hispanic and Latino people have made (The USA is home to about 60 million Latino & Hispanic people. That's a lot of culture and people to celebrate! ). Take this opportunity to learn more about the 21 Spanish-speaking countries and territories whose cultures are honored during this month.
Girl Scouts can join in on learning about Hispanic Heritage Month and earn this multicultural patch by stopping by the GSSI Shop to learn about a few Hispanic countries and their flags, learn the Girl Scout Promise and Law in Spanish, and take home a recipe for chorreadas, a traditional Costa Rica dish.
International Day of the Girl Patch
Every year on October 11, the global community comes together to celebrate International Day of the Girl. It’s the day when everyone recognizes the power of girls everywhere! Every girl has the power to realize her potential. But it’s important to amplify girls’ voices and advocate for their inclusion in changemaking spaces.
Girl Scouts can celebrate International Day of the Girl by stopping by the GSSI Shop to learn more about the United Nations-recognized day and create their own Bill of Rights for Girls to earn a special patch!
Native American Heritage Month Patch
By acknowledging the diversity, heritage, and contributions of our multicultural communities, Girl Scouts can find new ways to make the world a better place for everyone.
You can celebrate Native American Heritage Month in November by recognizing with your family and friends the histories, cultures, and contributions of the Native American communities that were the first inhabitants of the United States. Take this opportunity to learn more about the cultures of the indigenous peoples in your state and across the country (The U.S. has 574 federally recognized Indian Nations, variously called tribes, nations, bands, pueblos, communities, and native villages).
Girl Scouts can join in on learning during Native American Heritage Month and earn this multicultural patch by stopping by the GSSI Shop to learn about the Native American cultural regions, books by Indigenous authors for different ages, and go home with a recipe for fry bread after learning about the history of this food.
