Black History Month Patch
By acknowledging the diversity, heritage, and contributions of our multicultural communities, Girl Scouts can find new ways to make the world a better place for everyone.
So, for the month of February, which is Black History Month in the U.S., we honor the incredible contributions, the Black and African American communities have made throughout U.S. history — from civil rights leaders to artists, politicians to inventors. Take this opportunity to learn more about this community’s central role in U.S. history and the world.
Girl Scouts can join in on learning during Black History Month and earn this multicultural patch by stopping by the GSSI Shop to learn about the Underground Railroad in Indiana, learn about Shirley Chisholm (the first Black woman to be elected to the United States Congress), and take a home a recipe for cornbread, a tasty bread with more history than you may think. Girls and leaders have plenty of activities to choose from to earn this fun patch, and we encourage girls from all ethnic backgrounds to participate.
World Thinking Day 2025 Award
Each year on February 22, Girl Scouts and Girl Guides from over 150 countries celebrate World Thinking Day. You don’t need to wait until February to get started on earning 2025's World Thinking Day Award though! Start learning about World Thinking Day now and embrace perspectives outside your own. Dive into this year’s focus of “Our Story: Reflecting the symbolism and values of our Movement” and explore how you can build the confidence to know you can make a real difference, in your community and beyond. Think about the issues that contribute to problems near or far, and about the little things you can do to make a big difference!
Girl Scouts can celebrate World Thinking Day by stopping by the GSSI Shop to learn how to sing the World Song (the song from WAGGGS for Girl Guides & Girl Scouts), discover some local multi-cultural organizations, and more!
Girl Scout Way Badge and Girl Scout Week
March is Women's History Month, but Girl Scout Week also takes place during this month! So, all month long, Girl Scouts that are Brownies up to Ambassadors are invited to come to the GSSI Shop on Fridays to work on their Girl Scout Way Badge, and then from March 10–14, Girl Scouts of all ages are invited to the Shop to celebrate Girl Scout Week with special activities, together!
For the Girl Scout Way Badge, girls will learn about Girl Scout traditions, share activities, and join together in song (the World Song) to feel the Girl Scout spirit that is over a century strong. By the end of the badge work, girls will know how to use the Girl Scout way and our traditions to make the world a better place!
For Girl Scout Week, all Girl Scouts are invited to the GSSI Shop to participate in this special week by making SWAPS for each other, coloring a Flat Juliette, and learning about some of the special days that take place during this week, like Girl Scout Jummah and Shabbat.
April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, so let's brighten a Girl Scout volunteer's day by saying thank you! Our GSSI volunteers deserve to be celebrated for their creativity, care, and dedication, so we've got some fun and creative ways for you to show your gratitude this month:
Girl Scout Tree Promise Patch
All over the world, deforestation and climate change are damaging the planet. Trees help cool communities, reducing the heat island effect created by buildings, machines, and pavement. They also provide habitat for wildlife, create shade on hot summer days, clean water, and remove asthma-causing air pollution.
Girl Scouts are invited to make the world a better place with GSSI by earning their Girl Scout Tree Promise patch (ENG, ESP)! Visit the GSSI Shop to participate in creating tree-inspired art, and learning how to plant, protect, and honor trees with your family and friends today!
Girl Scout Mental Wellness Programs
Becoming a Girl Scout means tapping into a supportive group of people who uplift you every step of the way. When it comes to caring for your mental wellness, the Girl Scouts Mental Wellness patch program reminds you that you’re never alone in facing challenges and invites you to dive into understanding your emotions.
For the month of May, Girl Scouts are invited to work on earning their Mental Wellness Patch (for Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors) and/or their Ready. Resilient. Strong. Patch (for all Girl Scouts) (ENG, ESP) at the GSSI Shop. Learn how to express your emotions visually and verbally to work on earning the Mental Wellness Patch, and/or work on earning the Ready. Resilient. Strong. Patch by sharing a story with the council, designing a crest, and more!
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Patch
By acknowledging the diversity, heritage, and contributions of our multicultural communities, Girl Scouts can find new ways to make the world a better place for everyone.
So, for the month of May, which is Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, celebrate the cultural richness of all people in the U.S. whose ancestors came from the Pacific Islands, Hawaii, or the Asian diaspora, and acknowledge the many contributions of the AANHPI community to our nation.
Girl Scouts can join in the celebration by earning the AANHPI Heritage Month Fun Patch (ENG, ESP). Stop by the GSSI Shop to learn about the history and significance of the lei in Hawaii, and to take home resources to discover art, community traditions, and other activities to earn this special multicultural patch! Girls and leaders have plenty of activities to choose from to earn this fun patch, and we encourage girls from all ethnic backgrounds to participate.
Girl Scout Climate Challenge Patch
As climate change affects our planet, it’s up to us to do what we can to protect our Earth. When you participate in the Girl Scout Climate Challenge, you’ll learn about climate science, connect with your community to understand how it is being impacted by climate change, and spread awareness of the issue to make a difference.
Girl Scouts in Grades K-5 can begin to earn their patch by coming into the GSSI Shop to learn about the difference between weather and climate, learn about greenhouse gases and the carbon cycle, and map out local resources and examples of erosion in their community. They'll also receive some additional resources. Plus, they'll leave with a fun take-home activity related to climate change and the sun!
Girl Scouts in Grades 6-12 can begin to earn their patch by coming into the GSSI Shop to learn about the difference between weather and climate, map out climate resources in their community, and create a mind map that explores the root causes of climate change. They'll also receive some additional resources. Plus, they can utilize these online resources to learn about biodiversity and environmental justice, which allows them to complete more requirements to earn the patch!
Eco Badges
While earning the Girl Scout Tree Promise patch, Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors patch, and/or Girl Scouts Love State Parks patch, complete some requirements to earn your Eco badge, too!
Girl Scouts can participate by stopping by the GSSI Shop to learn about the Leave No Trace Principles, discover how long trash takes to decompose, and explore animal habitats.
LGBTQ+ Pride Month Patch
By acknowledging the diversity, heritage, and contributions of our multicultural communities, Girl Scouts can find new ways to make the world a better place for everyone.
Since June is Pride Month, Girl Scouts are invited to earn the LGBTQ+ Pride Month Celebration Fun Patch (ENG, ESP) to honor LGBTQ+ history, celebrate the diverse cultures and identities of LGBTQ+ people, and acknowledge the many contributions that the LGBTQ+ community has made and continues to make across our nation. Stop by the GSSI Shop to participate in art, community traditions, and discovery-focused activities to earn this special multicultural patch! Girls and leaders have plenty of activities to choose from to earn this fun patch, and we encourage girls from all ethnic backgrounds to participate.
Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors Patch
You don’t need access to a national park or the woods to enjoy the outdoors! So put yourself out there with us and participate in the Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors Challenge (ENG, ESP).
Visit the GSSI Shop to earn this fun patch by completing some of the activities on the challenge list, like: talking to someone at the council about what they liked to do as a kid, creating nature-inspired art, and getting resources to help you complete other parts of the Challenge.
