Volunteer with Girl Scouts and help girls find what’s within.

Be part of the moments that spark confidence, courage, and joy—sign up and make a difference today!

Behind every girl who discovers her strength is a volunteer who shows up, cheers her on, and believes in her. You already have what it takes to inspire girls to explore, grow, and lead. Along the way, you’ll build your own confidence, strengthen your leadership skills, and connect with a supportive community that shares your passion.

  • Volunteer as a troop leader: Guide a group of Girl Scouts by creating a fun, safe space. We’ll help you get started with easy-to-use tools like the Girl Scout Experience Box and ready-made Troop Year Plans so you can focus on fun, growth, and connection.

  • Be a supportive adult volunteer: Help girls thrive by assisting with meetings, activities, or special events, no matter your schedule or experience.

  • Get involved on your terms. Choose a role that fits your time and interests—from leading a troop to lending a hand behind the scenes.

No previous experience is required to support girls as they build confidence, skills, and lifelong friendships through the Girl Scout experience. Your local Girl Scout Council can help get you started.

Volunteering with a Troop

Whether you can give a few hours, a few weeks, or a few months, volunteering with Girl Scouts is flexible and fun!

Considering forming a new troop? Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana (GSSI) requires a minimum of two unrelated, registered adult volunteers, at least one of whom is a female, with approved background checks on file for a new troop to form. GSSI refers to these primary volunteers as co-leaders together to ensure success:

  • Co-Leader
  • Cookie Volunteer
  • Treasurer
  • Ongoing Volunteer
  • Occasional Helping Hand

Forming a New Troop
Are you considering forming a new troop? Read the Breakdown of Troop Tasks for recommendations on organizing a collaborative team of troop volunteers. Remember, GSSI staff and fellow volunteers will support you along the way!

Get ready to thrive with a community that’s as dedicated to YOU as you are to mentoring our future leaders!

Here are the ways you'll be supported on your volunteer journey:

  • Co-Leader Onboarding: Your initial training to learn Girl Scout basics and feel confident and excited as you form your troop and prepare for your first meeting.
  • Co-Leader Cohorts: Journey alongside other first-year co-leaders with guidance from GSSI staff and volunteer mentors. Share tips, encouragement, and build friendships as you navigate your first year together.
  • Service Unit Communities: Connect with local volunteers and build your Girl Scout family close to home. Service units provide exciting community-level opportunities that highlight the power of being part of the bigger Girl Scout sisterhood—not just your troop.
  • Rallyhood: Our Girl Scout communication platform where you can connect with volunteer experts across 11 counties ready to share skills, offer support, and help create unique experiences for your troop. Plus, Rallyhood gives you easy access to all the volunteer resources you need to succeed.

  • Girl Scout Experience Boxes
New troops with girls in grades K–3 receive monthly boxes delivered straight to your door, packed with supplies, easy-to-follow activities, and helpful scripts to make leading meetings a breeze. We’ll help you sign up during onboarding so you can jump right in hassle-free!
  • Volunteer Toolkit
Your personal planning sidekick! The Volunteer Toolkit provides ready-made, customizable meeting plans that perfectly complement your Girl Scout Experience Box. Discover extra badge opportunities tailored to your girls’ interests to enrich your year. Plus, easily track attendance and achievements—and help girls stay on track with badges even if they miss a meeting.
