GSSI's 2023 GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship Recipient Named
GSSI Ambassador Girl Scout Katie Larmore has been named the recipient of the 2023 Girl Scouts of the USA Gold Award Scholarship. This prestigious award comes with a $10,000 scholarship and recognition in local and national Girl Scout promotions. She is one of nine GSSI members who earned the Girl Scout Gold Award in 2023, the highest and most prestigious award a Girl Scout can receive.
Katie's project addressed the needs of veterans who may be struggling financially by providing them with essential items like toiletries and household goods. She collaborated with two local veterans' organizations to place bins where members can leave donations, and veterans in need can collect what they may need. So that nothing goes to waste, organization volunteers will collect items left in the boxes at the end of the month and add them to care packages to be distributed to other counties.
Katie says she learned that setbacks can happen during a project, but by networking and using the right contacts for support, it's possible to bring a project like this to reality.
She will attend Purdue University in the fall, where she plans to major in anesthesiology.
