Join Girl Scouts from all over Indiana for Girl Scout Day at the Statehouse!
This program offers Girl Scouts an up-close experience in civic engagement, designed to empower them with the tools to become informed, active citizens. The day's activities are structured to give girls an understanding of government processes, hands-on experience in advocacy, and insight into the impact they can have in their communities. Girl Scouts will also complete steps toward earning key badges related to civics, citizenship, and advocacy.
Program Highlights:
Statehouse Tours: Guided tours of the historic Statehouse, exploring the halls where state leaders make important decisions and learning about the rich history of our government.
Speakers of Advocacy Influence: Hear from influential speakers who are passionate advocates for change, from lawmakers and policy advisors to community leaders, as they share their personal journeys in advocacy and civic engagement.
Pathway Breakout Sessions: Girl Scouts will choose one of three
pathways to focus on:
Civics - Learn the basics of how
our government operates and how decisions are made at different
levels.
Citizenship - Discover the responsibilities and
rights of citizenship and ways to be an active, informed
citizen.
Advocacy - Dive into strategies for making a
difference on issues that matter to you, and how to start a campaign
for change.
Bring Your Own Lunch: To keep the program running smoothly, please bring a packed lunch. We'll break to relax and network with their peers and program providers will have specialty tables.
Excusal Letter from School: All registered participants will receive an official excusal letter to share with their school, excusing their attendance for this day of learning and growth.
T-Shirt Sizes: Each Girl Scout attending the program will receive a commemorative T-shirt. Please be sure to select your T-shirt size when registering.
Optional Overnight Accommodation: For families traveling from outside the area, optional overnight accommodations will be provided the night before for a small fee. This ensures Girl Scouts can arrive at the Statehouse bright and early, well-rested and ready to dive into the day's events.
Girl Scouts will earn badges based on the pathway they choose for
the event. They can choose from one of 3 pathways:
Civics - Girl
Scouts will earn the Democracy badge for their age level.
Citizenship - Girl Scouts will earn the Indiana Civil Rights
Commission patch
Advocacy - Girl Scouts will work on Inside
Government (Juniors), Finding Common Ground (Cadettes), Behind the
Ballot (Seniors), and Public Policy (Ambassador) badges.
