Girl Scout Stations (10 AM - 2 PM):
Station 1. Animal Appreciation - Girl Scouts will enjoy a short 10-minute program where they will learn the proper way to act around different types of animals - someone else’s pet, ambassador animals at MPZ, and wild animals. We will discuss the impacts of the wildlife trade and emphasize leaving local wildlife where you found it.
Station 2: Reptile & Invertebrate Encounter - Meet some of the reptile and invertebrate ambassadors at MPZ. Scouts will be able to touch some of the ambassadors and learn more about their lives, food, and habitat. The ambassadors will vary based on availability and be rotated throughout the day.
Station 3: Proper Pets - Girl Scouts will pick an animal that they think they want as a pet. They then will discover if this animal is a proper pet, sometimes a pet, or never a pet. We will discuss what each animal would cost to keep, how long it lives, what it eats, what habitat it requires and if it is legal to possess. Girl Scouts may go back and pick something more suitable if they have time or may pick as a group.
Station 4: Build a Pet - Girl Scouts will be a given a variety of material options to make their own perfect pet rock. Girl Scouts will be given an adoption certificate that they can add the pet’s name and fun facts about their pet. Girl Scouts will be able to decorate and choose items to put in a small box for their pet’s carrier/habitat to take home.
Station 5: Animal Grooves Game - Play a fun game with your troop using animal movements and sounds. Girl Scouts will be shown pictures of an animal that they will either move like or sound like. The animals will switch until the music stops. When the music stops, scouts will be asked to choose if the current animal is a proper pet, sometimes a pet, or not a pet.
Station 6: Mammal Encounter - Meet some of the mammal ambassador animals at MPZ. Girl Scouts will be able to touch some of the mammals and learn more about their lives, food, and habitat. The mammals will vary based on availability and be rotated throughout the day.
Some activities at the Zoobilee may meet badge requirements (badge not included). Check the chart below to check. All stations are open to all Girl Scouts.
