Summer is here, school is out, and
there are plenty of books to be read!
The Evansville Police Department has partnered with the Evansville
Vanderburgh School Corporation, Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library,
and Barnes & Noble for its first-ever Summer Reading Series led
by Special Projects Coordinator Taylor Merriss.
Officer Merriss says she “understands the benefits that reading
can bring to children; most importantly cognitive, emotional and
language development which all aid in achieving academic success.”
In an age where most things are digital, having face-to-face
interactions, including reading, helps build relationships and
create social connections.
Officer Merriss hasn’t always been an avid reader, having come
into it later in life, but since she began her reading journey, she
has discovered its many benefits. She is excited to share her
passion for reading with those attending the EVSC Summer Schools and
anyone, within the age recommendations, who wishes to attend the
reading series at the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Libraries and
Barnes & Noble.

locations for age-specific reading events!
