Discover the STEM Experience Center at Camp Koch, where outdoor learning meets hands-on science.

Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana is excited to introduce our newest initiative: the STEM Experience Center at Camp Koch—a 500-acre outdoor learning campus in the heart of Perry County.

Launching in Fall of 2025, this immersive program invites schools across southwest Indiana to explore STEM in a whole new way: outdoors, interactive, and unforgettable.

About the Center

Thanks to generous support from Alcoa, Camp Koch now features six self-guided, hands-on STEM & Environmental Science stations aligned with Indiana state science standards and designed to make learning come alive. Each includes:

Age-appropriate, inquiry-based curriculum
All supplies and equipment provided
Interactive signage and activities
Fun take-home STEM swag for students
Real-world science with an outdoor focus

Each experience is tailored for grades 2–8 and can be customized by grade level. Featured programs include:

Junior Ranger: Discover local wildlife and nature with Ranger James
Butterfly Science: Observe pollinators and their life cycles
Eco Advocate: Explore how clean water supports life and ecosystems
Space Science Researcher: Discover the camp's Moon Tree
Citizen Scientist: Study real environmental data
Trail Adventure: Navigate trails, explore, and examine nature

Camp Koch Information toggle arrow

Camp Koch spans 500 acres of rugged woodland in the hills of Perry County, overlooking the Ohio River near Cannelton, Indiana. Maintained year-round by on-site Ranger James Loveless, the property features dense forests, scenic trails, and diverse ecosystems—making it an ideal setting for outdoor exploration and scientific discovery.

Trails are regularly cleared and maintained, but visitors should be prepared for uneven ground, exposed tree roots, stairs, and hill walking. With sturdy footwear and a sense of adventure, most students and adults can navigate the terrain with ease.
