Dear Girl Scout Families,
Our thoughts are with all of you during these challenging times, especially those who have been personally impacted by the pandemic. As the state begins to reopen, we will be adapting to follow the guidelines set forth by the Governor and GSUSA, and we have several updates to share with you.
At Girl Scouts, the health and safety of our girls, volunteers, and staff are always our top priority. We will begin slowly opening up opportunities in a limited capacity starting in Governor Holcomb’s Stage 4 (tentatively scheduled for June 13-14) of the Indiana Back on Track plan. HERE is a great visual for you to use as you begin planning your summer. In the interim, we will offer weekly opportunities online for you to continue your Girl Scout journey.
The GSSI office and retail shop will remain closed for the next few weeks; however, our shop team has pivoted to make many items available through scheduled pick-up at the council office in Evansville. Visit our Shop page for more information and special offers.
How this Affects Summer Resident and Day Camps
With the uncertainty of COVID-19 and the risks associated with having girls in the close group settings of camp, all in-person resident camp sessions are canceled for Summer 2020 . Full refunds will be given to anyone who pre-registered. GSSI volunteer-led Day Camps will be canceled and/or postponed until late summer/early fall. We will update the Day Camp page on our website with more information as it becomes available.
As resilient and innovative Girl Scouts, we are reimagining the way we do our outdoor programs and creating exceptional at-home adventures for our girls. We look forward to creating new traditions with you this summer! GSSI’s program team is quickly pivoting to provide virtual sessions with opportunities for skill building, adventure, and fun. Camp programs will be led by our amazing Camp Koch Outdoor Team and will provide girls in grades K-12 opportunities to experience camp-life from home. Offerings will include free and fee-based options. We will release more information throughout the month of May; be sure to follow us on Facebook and check out our GSSI newsletter, On My Honor, for these exciting opportunities.
This has been a difficult decision and it hurts our hearts to cancel so many of our amazing in-person activities. We understand that this may disappoint our girls and volunteers; however, GSSI’s team is committed to reimagining these experiences for you. We will reach out with more details within the coming weeks. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Ways You Can Support Girl Scouts
As with so many non-profit organizations, this pandemic has left us vulnerable and with a funding gap. In a time when we are facing a significant reduction in program revenues, your continued support can make all the difference.
We need each other more than ever, so show your support by renewing your girl and adult memberships during our Annual Renewal Campaign. You don't want to miss what we have planned for the year to come! Click HERE for more information about renewal.
Family Giving Partnership
We know this crisis is affecting many families and individuals, but if you are able, please consider donating to GSSI’s Family Giving Partnership. This unique campaign annually enables GSSI to provide critical financial assistance to members in need, keeping Girl Scouting and future camp seasons accessible for EVERY girl, regardless of her family’s circumstances. Click HERE for more information.
At GSSI, our spirit, sense of adventure and commitment to serving our girls remains higher than ever! As we continue to focus on doing what’s best for the well-being of our Girl Scout family, we look forward to the day we can gather to enjoy all that Girl Scouting offers together.
